Kimaiyo to the left and Kipchumba Murkomen to the right Former Police Inspector General David Kimaiyo has announced that he will vie for Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial position in 2017.

Kimaiyo will run against incumbent Kipchumba Murkomen.

Speaking at AIC Kapsowar on Sunday, the former IG said that his more than 35 years in government make him well qualified for the job. According to reports, he will be running as an independent candidate, or either with KANU or CCM.

Kimaiyo fell out with the government in June this year when he was sacked as Kenya Airports Authority chairman. He blamed unnamed persons for his misfortunes.

He further hinted at running for the presidency in 2022.

” If God gives me time to live I will be on the presidential ballot paper in 2022 with others who will be vying,” he said.

Following his declaration, Kipchumba Murkomen posted this on Facebook.

”Kimaiyo says he wants to run for Senate because I sacked him from office as IG. Fair enough. Why can’t he tell the nation why he was also sacked from Aiport 17 months later? Why can’t he tell the nation why after his departure the security of the nation has improved under Boinett ? Verily verily I say unto you Elgeyo Marakwet County will not be under Sieke. At least not under my watch!”

If the choice was only between these two, who would you want to have in the Senate?
