Samsung Z4 was launched in mid-May and it is the first smartphone from Samsung to run on Tizen 3.0 OS.

Tizen 3.0 is the latest multi-purpose OS by Samsung and while some have been quick to disregard it, it is definitely worth paying attention to.

That said, it is fair to mention that Tizen still lags behind Android and iOS in terms of basic usability, apps, and other areas.

According to Wikipedia, Tizen can run several other devices including Smart TVs, smart cameras, printers, wearables such as smart watches, and smartphone appliances.

    Z4 Specifications

Back to Samsung Z4, the handset may not come with life-changing features or exciting hardware but it cannot be ignored especially since it is a pioneer in something: rocking the Tizen 3.0 OS.

The recently unveiled device comes with a 4.50-inch touchscreen display and a screen resolution of 480×800 pixels.

Though this is 2017, we will give Samsung a pass since not everyone is obsessed with a big screen and such high resolution.

Some people are comfortable with a handset bearing average specs and we can respect that. Z4, thus, answers the cry of a certain market segment.

The 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM (expandable by up to 128GB), and quad-core 1.5GHz processor are acceptable for a handset in its category.

The 1GB RAM will allow some multitasking but of course, you will be a bit limited. But then again, we can all agree that people’s needs differ when it comes to smartphone use.

Someone who needs the handset for basic use will find Z4 desirable.

Samsung highlights the camera as the key selling point.

The 5MP rear camera with LED Flash and f/2.2 aperture is acceptable. The front-facing camera also comes with 5MP shooter only with a single LED Flash.

The camera specs may not look good on paper but it may take decent photos. There are some smartphones that rock a 5MP camera and end up taking gorgeous.

So, let’s reserve the judgment for later.

One of the most interesting features of this handset is the physical buttons. You can choose to use screen swipes or press the physical buttons.

Samsung Z4 is powered by 2,050mAh non-removable battery. This should be good enough for normal use.

For basic functions, you will not consume power at a very fast rate and this means you can enjoy screen time for a much longer time.

The handset comes with a dual-SIM setup.

One of the most annoying things when using a handset is having to swipe SIM cards.

This is, thus, good news to people who seek a basic phone that allows the use of dual-SIM consecutively.

Samsung Z4 price will retail for anywhere between Ksh. 9,000 and Ksh. 10,000.

    That’s not all.

There are several connectivity options including Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G, and 4G.

The sensors include a Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, and Ambient light sensor.

    Final thoughts?

Samsung Z4 is for those who enjoy a simplified mobile experience. First-time smartphone users will also appreciate this handset since it gives them a smartphone experience at its most basic level.
