Waweru Mburu of Citizen TV is Dead.

Mburu, Head of Radio Citizen at Royal Media Services, passed on at MP Shah Hospital while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.

Mburu, who was behind the Yaliyotendeka show on Citizen Radio, is said to have been battling gastric cancer.

It is said he had been flown to India for treatment but returned and was booked at MP Shah Hospital.

Mburu had recently declared his bid to vie for Maragua Constituency MP seat.

The radio personality’s program dealt with socio- and geopolitical issues and was popular across audiences.

The 15-minute show ran on weekdays at 8 pm, with repeats the following morning at 6.45am.

Until his death, Mburu had served Royal Media Services for many years and was among pioneers in the radio commentary.

Mburu went to Emusire Boys High School in Kakamega and later proceeded to the University of Nairobi where he studied Development Communication.

The veteran journalist formerly taught Kiswahili before joining the media.

Friends and fans mourned Mburu with many describing him as a voice for the voiceless.

“To me I ave (have) lost a hero n (and) forever will remember u Waweru Mburu.u always told me that if talk is silver then silence is gold n that has been ur whatups status for a long time now R.I.P,” Gladys Muriithi posted on Facebook.

“R.I.P Waweru Mburu. Sad you had to leave so early. I remember your strong and informed presentation in our M.A classes. So informed were you that you arrested the nation’s attention in your radio programme,” Fred Rodgers Odhiambo said.

Peter Mwaura who grew up with Mburu described him as a protector.

“We grew up together, schooled together and when it came to having families, we journeyed together. You protected me when I was in Form 1 and I was not molested. Death is cruel that is has plucked you at a prime age when we needed you most.”
