National Integrated Identity Management System (Niims) Latest News: Jobs, Kick Off, Enumerators Salary

The National Integrated Identity Management System, NIIMS, for mass digital registration and identification will be rolled out in March 2019.

Interior Principal Secretary, Dr. Karanja Kibicho, said the exercise will begin on March 15 after a pilot programme that will commence in 15 counties in two week’s time.

Speaking Thursday during a press briefing at his Harambee House office, Dr. Kibicho said the system will create, manage and operate a national population register as a single source of personal information for all Kenyan citizens and registered foreigners in the country.

Meanwhile, the system will be designed in such a way that all documents ranging from birth certificate, school certificate, driving license, NHIF, NSSF, Kenya Revenue Authority PIN and any other documents will be accessed at the touch of a button.

A section of communities living along the Kenya-Tanzania border have not been able to register for health services by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Over 300 Tanzanians in Taveta sub-county  some married for as long as twenty five years  to Kenyan citizens will not receive NHIF Services under the NHIF  Afya Bora Mashinani due to lack of Identity Cards and marriage certificates.

Speaking in Taveta during a health sensitization program community health volunteer, Susan Ndinda, said there is urgent need for the government to resolve the matter to assist the women benefit from NHIF services.

Susan Mghanga, another community health volunteer, said it has been difficult for them to follow up on patients with HIV and TB as a section of them come from Tanzania.

According to the health department, lack of IDs and marriage certificates has become a major stumbling block to their efforts to achieve their target of 150,000 persons. -KBC
