Zuku Fiber Packages and Cost in Kenya

4316

Zuku fiber offers unlimited internet in Nairobi and parts of Mombasa.

It is one of the products offered by Wananchi group and whose effect has been felt since it was introduced in Kenya.

This internet product comes in two main categories: residential and business packages.

In January 2016, Zuku revised its price structure by raising charges for both home and residential packages.

The lowest package for homes was set at Ksh. 1,799 while that of offices would be Ksh. 7,699.

This was also occasioned by an increase in bandwidth where the 10MBps package was increased to 15Mbps while the 20Mbps was increased to 30Mbps.

Today, the lowest home package charge is Ksh. 1,999 while the business package still stands at Ksh. 7,699.

This upgrade may have been driven by the need to offer Zuku customers higher speeds.

Prior to this, there had been complaints about slow internet speeds by Zuku Fiber and the upgrade can be seen as a way of addressing this problem.

Also, it is possible that competition played a major role since there were other companies such as DStv offering similar services.

Zuku Fiber Packages and Prices for the Residentil Plan:

Package Speed (Mbps) Charges (Monthly)
J4 4Mbps Ksh. 1,999
Home Basic 15Mbps Ksh. 4,499
Home Preferred 30Mbps Ksh. 5,699
Home Premium 60Mbps Ksh. 9,999

The 4MBps package comes with a free set-top box. The subscriber is expected to pay an installation fee of Ksh. 2,000.

All other packages come with a Free Wi-Fi modem, free set-top box, and a free telephone.

Those who opt for the 10Mbps, 30Mbps, and 60Mbps get free installation services.

Zuku Fiber Packages and Prices for the Business Plan:

Package Speed (Mbps) Charges (Monthly)
15Mbps Ksh. 7,699
30Mpbs Ksh. 10,999
60Mbps Ksh. 14, 999

These packages come with setup fees. The 15Mbps, 30Mbps, and 60Mbps attract a setup fee of Ksh. 5,999 each.

Also, these packages offer businesses the option to enjoy extra services, at a fee of course.

For instance, businesses that subscribe to the 15Mbps package can subscribe to extra television channels, the extension of premium TV services to various rooms, an additional telephone line, and a Static IP.

These also attract setup fees and their monthly fees are paid separately; they are not included in the Ksh. 7,699 monthly fee.

Faiba, Safaricom, Airtel, and Orange are internet service providers that could have encouraged adjustments in speed and prices.

Safaricom has introduced 4G services and this is likely to change the playground.

Other companies are likely to come up with strategies to survive in an industry characterized by stiff competition.

The increased adoption of internet enabled phones is likely to lead to greater adoption of internet services.

This means that the various service providers are likely to register higher subscription numbers.

This could also mean that more internet service providers could emerge.

Zuku has already earned its place in the industry; hence, it will likely attract higher subscriptions.

Zuku Fiber continues to grow and spread to various estates. We can only wait to see the direction that this company will take in 2017.

Dear Zuku,

About 18 months ago, your technician came and offered to install a 10 or 15 Mb domestic package for which I paid a deposit.
Shortly afterwards I was told that ZUKU did not reach yet my area (Tchui Close, Muthaiga). The deposit was returned.
Can you inform me if my area is now covered?
Am interested in a domestic package. I also need a booster to service the lower growing floor apartment.
