Homa Bay driver’s full viral video claiming he is healthy

he Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth has watered down claims by asymptomatic truck driver who said in a viral video that he was wrongly placed in mandatory quarantine.

The driver only identified as Kelvin in the video said he has been taking Malaria medication but was otherwise in fine health , casting doubts on his coronavirus test results.

“I’m not sick, I’m now in the isolation centre and up to now, I have not received any medication, if it is true that I’m sick, why are they not treating me,?” the driver quipped.

Speaking to Citizen TV’s Trevor Ombija on Monday, Dr. Amoth said the driver tested positive despite not having any symptoms of the new coronavirus.

He noted that 56 per cent of the positive cases recorded in Kenya were asymptomatic, meaning that those infected had not exhibited any symptoms.

Dr Amoth noted that treatment is only given to those who have symptoms adding that those with no symptoms are tested after the 14-day quarantine and then released if they rest negative.

“He has a virus and although he has no symptoms he can still transmit the virus to his family and other Kenyans, after 14 days and upon ascertaining that there is not more virus shedding, he will be released,” Dr Amoth explained.

The middle-aged truck driver is currently in quarantine at Malela, Ndhiwa in Homabay county.

He first made news after it emerged that he has transported a handful people to Homa Bay carrying an empty coffin,
