List of betting companies banned in Kenya 2019

Barely a month after the government constituted a multi-agency team to probe the licences of all betting and gambling companies in Kenya,  the team have completed its quest and it turns out that most companies have not complied with the required laws of running a betting company and thus leading to the closure of the companies.

In addition senior members of the company whom most are not Kenyans risk being deported to their respective countries if the ban takes effect.  Among the companies that failed to comply include :-

1. SportPesa

SportPesa is a Kenyan sports betting platform founded in 2014.

The platform runs operations in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, the Isle of Man and the UK, where it operates in conjunction with TGP Europe.

2. Betin

Betin Kenya is a sports gambling platform owned by two Italian business men.

Since its establishment, Betin has been one of SportPesa’s main rivals. Apart from football betting the platform has other gambling options that include; Lucky Dice, Classic Roulette, Classic Blackjack, Toto Keno, European Roulette, Manga Beach, Classic Baccarat, Cards Hilo, Reel Assault, Pirate Island, House of Dracula, One Night in Vegas, Bollywood Nights, The Big Match, Wild West Hilo among others.

3. Betway

Betway is a global online gambling company. Betway has a number of brands including Betway Sportsbook, Betway Casino, Betway Vegas, Betway Bingo and Betway Poker, Dream Bingo, Bingo on the Box and Spin Casino.

Betpawa

Betpawa is an online gambling platform that is better known for their amazing jackpot.

At the time of this writing the gambling company operates in African countries namely Kenya,  Uganda,  Tanzania,  Namibia, Ghana,  Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

The listed gambling companies above are among the major companies Kenyans ever knew.

Effects of the suspension

It is no lie that many unemployed Kenyans especially the youth depend on betting.  You’d  see many youth with SportPesa placards sold mainly by newspaper vendors or at SportPesa shops or maybe spot a huge number of them in Betin Shops.

On the other hand the companies itself will suffer a loss,  though not that much because many of these companies are global,  Kenya was ranked with high number of participants taking part in sports gambling and it’s evident how much it costs to fail to comply with the governments needs to run a gambling company.
