List of Universities Offering “Useless” Courses in Kenya
The Commission of University Education(CUE) has released a List of Universities Offering “Useless” Courses in Kenya. The universities have been found to offer rejected 133 courses that have a cumulative enrollment of 10,000 slots in various Universities in Kenya.
Students already taking these courses may discontinue as those who have graduated face being blocked out of the job market.
Some of the Universities have a higher number of rejected courses while others have none. Among Universities with unapproved courses are:
Tom Mboya University College is leading the pack with 25 courses as Garissa University and Alupe University have ten rejected courses each.
Great Lakes University of Kisumu and Kenya Highlands Evangelical University have eight unapproved courses while Lukenya and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga of Science and Technology have six rejected courses each.
The commission also declined to approve four courses at both Kenyatta University and Karatina University, with three courses being rejected at Moi University.
The commission’s CEO, Mwenda Ntarangwi, addressed the panic by the institutions explaining that the body was still engaging with affected Universities.
“This is still an ongoing process and we are in consultation with Universities,” the Professor stated.
The findings emerged after the commission audited universities last year in readiness for 2019 placement.
