Centum CEO James Mworia has been named the best paid CEO in Kenya.
In a list compiled by Business Daily, the 39 year old takes home Sh 16.7 million a month, translating to Sh201.1 million a year.
Mworia has benefited mostly from Centum’s generous employee performance bonus scheme. His net income for the year ended March 2016 increased by 25%, matching Centum’s 25% increase in profit, which stood at Sh9.9 billion.
Equity Bank is the second best paying company for its top employees. Three of its executive directors, including CEO James Mwangi earned an average monthly income of Sh15.9 million in the year ended December 2015.

BAT Kenya chief executive Keith Gretton and CFO Philip Lopokoiyit take home an average monthly compensation of Sh13.2 million each.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and CFO John Tombleson took home an average monthly pay of Sh10.7 million in the year ended March.

Others in the list of top earners are: EABL’s Jane Karuku and two former executives – Charles Ireland (former CEO) and Tracey Barnes (former CFO), who took home an average monthly pay of Sh7.2 million.

KCB Group’s Joshua Oigara and his chief financial officer, Lawrence Kimathi, took home an average monthly compensation of Sh6.3 million each in the year ended December 2015.

In the last financial year, Safaricom made a profit of Sh38.1 billion, KCB Sh 19.6 billion, EABL Sh9. 5 billion and BAT Sh4.9 billion.
